Rough & Tumble City Safari: The perfect (mom) bag
Updated: Feb 17, 2019
I used to think I was a diaper bag addict.
In my four years of being a mother, I have owned approximately 10 different diaper bags. No, I’m not kidding. I’ve tried everything in the past, including Petunia Picklebottom, Ju-ju-be, Skip Hop, Little Unicorn, and more. What I’ve discovered, is my favorite diaper bag or “mom bag” is not a diaper bag at all. My favorites in my rotation that I keep coming back to, include the Fjallraven Kanken backpack, and the Kavu slingbag. They’re both cute, comfortable, and hold the essentials. But let’s be honest, they’re backpacks, and they’re definitely more on the casual side of things. Perfect for a hike in the woods, or going for a walk to the playground, but sometimes you need a bag that holds it all, and looks like a bag you might've owned pre-baby.
Enter: the City Safari bag from Rough & Tumble out of Portland, ME.
This is NOT a diaper bag. But, it works even better and is more functional than any diaper bag I’ve used in the past. Rough & Tumble is a small business, who makes beautiful, handmade, high-quality leather bags. The City Safari is the perfect mom bag (or really just “bag” in general!) because it holds a ton- I have the "large", and has great inner organization, but doesn’t look bulky when filled to the brim. The top half is waxed canvas, while the bottom is leather, and it has leather straps.
The best part is the strap is adjustable, so it can be worn as a shoulder bag, messenger bag, or if you cinch the two outer straps, it can be worn as a backpack! Wearing my bags backpack style makes babywearing on the front SO much easier, but having the option to wear this bag as a shoulder style means I can back-carry my heavy toddler and still carry all of our stuff!
